Gift Cards Give Back

Charles River Chamber restaurants are teaming up to combat food insecurity

Member restaurants are teaming up to fight food insecurity in response to anticipated shutdown of the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

When you purchase a gift card from a participating restaurant between Nov. 1 and Nov. 26, a portion of sales will be donated to Spoonfuls, Inc. — a Newton-based nonprofit food recovery organization that rescues fresh, healthy food and delivers it directly to local food pantries, shelters, and community programs serving Newton, Needham, Watertown, Wellesley and other Greater Boston and MetroWest communities.

It’s an easy way to support local and make a real impact.

Spoonfuls is a Newton-based chamber member nonprofit that rescues and redistributes healthy, fresh food that would otherwise be discarded—addressing the health, environmental, and economic impacts of food waste. Fully philanthropically funded, every $1 donated enables Spoonfuls to recover and deliver 1 pound of food, all distributed the same day to local pantries, meal programs, and shelters.

In the Charles River Chamber communities, Spoonfuls partners with local businesses including Roche Bros., Babson College, Wegmans, Volante Farms, and Captain Marden’s Seafood, delivering food to organizations such as the Centre Street Food Pantry, Needham Community Council, Needham Council on Aging, John M. Barry Boys & Girls Club of Newton and Newton Food Pantry.

Across Greater Boston and MetroWest, Spoonfuls works with 80 food brands and retailers to support 158 community organizations—see their statewide impact map here.

Additional funding will allowĀ Spoonfuls to:

  • Recover and distribute more food in real time, getting meals to people within hours of collection.

  • Onboard new food donors and community partners quickly, expanding reach as demand for food assistance continues to rise.

To directly support Spoonfuls you can make a donation or learn about partnership opportunities.
