REGINA WU, MD
Board President, Newton Food Pantry
Wu has been with the Newton Food Pantry as a volunteer and board member for the past eight years, assuming the role of president of the board in 2020. As a Chinese speaker, Wu has brought her linguistic and cultural competency to the food pantry, greatly enhancing what it can offer to the large proportion of immigrants it serves, including a better selection of culturally appropriate food items, linguistically appropriate signage and translation, etc. With her background as a physician, she was the right person to lead in establishing new safety COVID guidelines. Wu also introduced new initiatives to the pantry: the launching of an advisory council, new fundraising initiatives to improve financial sustainability, and a youth ambassador program. Under her leadership, the pantry has been able to weather the effects of COVID while increasing much-needed services to pantry clients. In addition to her leadership skills, Wu has contributed hands-on work, leading volunteers and operations at the pantry for at least 12 hours a week, all in addition to her work as a physician at Partners HealthCare.
